Bournville Yacht Racing
Radio Control and Free Sailing yacht Racing
A part of the Bournville Radio Sailing and Model Boat Club
As Bournville is one of the oldest and most established clubs in the world , there has been a vast amount of knowledge passed down from generation to generation with new members joining continually bringing extra knowledge and skills
We believe it is important to offer our members the opportunity of training on all topics . Over the last twelve months we have had sessions on –
Sail and rigging trimming
Racing tips
The start line
Rounding the windward mark
Race management
Rule sessions
Sail making
Free sailing
Our training sessions are designed to appeal to novices and experienced skippers alike , we are continually listening to our members checking that our training programme is catering for all needs
At a recent session whilst talking to a new member he told me that he found it difficult to remember which Port and Starboard were and lots more very basic terms , he went on to say that he was too embarrassed to mention it to anyone . We were able to reassure him that everyone has these problems and helped with a list of terms and a few hints on how to remember port and starboard.
[ see our technical pages ]
At the other end of the training scale several of our members wish to compete at Midland District and National level and our training programme has helped these members , resulting with the club taking the team award for the 2014 ?Midland District Champion Skipper and Club series for the first time ever
Our sessions are usually held monthly on Saturday mornings from 10.00 – 12.30 / 13.00
The future DRAFT training programme for 2017 is in the Training schedule shown on the right of this page. [The programme is subject to change , and dates to be confirmed so watch this space ! ]
We encourage everyone to come along as it is really worthwhile and has enabled several of our members to enjoy their sail far more
If you have a specific topic you would like training on please don’t hesitate to contact one of your Sailing Team
