How Often Is Binding Necessary?

If you are using a newer 2Ghz set and you are fitting a new receiver you will need to be bound to your radio. Also if you are transferring a receiver to another boat and you are using a Spektrum with ModelMatch.

What is a Futaba J Plug?

The older Futaba systems use a "G" plug. It's called a G plug because it looks of like a G, with a 90 degree hook at the exposed metal pins. These were replaced with J plugs in roughly 1991. The J plugs are just a straight down 3 pin plug which has a small key on one end to keep you from accidentally plugging in your servos backward. This is Key unique to Futaba. Many other manufacturers now also use a very similar plug, but but without the tab. JR's, Hitec's S, Airtronics Z,and Spektrum plugs are all compatible for use in Futaba Recievers. To use Futaba J plugs are compatible with other brands of receiver IF you shave off the safety key.

What is ModelMatch

ModelMatch is an exclusive Spektrum feature that prevents the radio system from operating if the incorrect model profile is selected from the model select screen. Each model location is given a secondary code on top of the GUID coding that mates that receiver to that specific memory location. If that code is not it not recognize the transmitter, remaining in failsafe mode.

What Is a receiver Failsafe mode?

A failsafe is a safety feature designed into Spektrum receivers that drives the servo or ESC positions to a preset location in the event that signal is lost. Typically you should set the failsafe so that if there is a loss of signal, the sail is pulled in and the rudder is straight. This will help get the yacht to the side in the case  of a radio fail.
